A Big Change Is Coming in 2016!
Due to the huge crowd we had on Saturday night of the 2015 Oktoberfest, on Saturday in 2016 the Oktoberfest doors will open at mid-afternoon (3:00 PM)!
We think the mid-afternoon opening on Saturday will be especially welcome to people with another event going on Saturday night; parents with young children, who want to get them to bed at their regular bedtime; folks who don’t like to drive after dark, and people who want to come earlier and have 9 hours of Oktoberfest fun instead of just 6.
To make certain that our afternoon patrons get the same Oktoberfest experience as those coming after 6:00 PM, our feature band, “Die Lustigen Almdudler” will play in the afternoon also, the Hirschjäger will dance, and everything will be open and operating, including the kitchen, the Bakery and, of course, the beer trailers. We are also planning special afternoon activities for the children.
As always, we offer two days of Genuine German Oktoberfest entertainment, including traditional and modern German and American dance music, Bavarian folk dancing by the SGTEV Hirschjäger dancers, beer stein hoisting contests each night for both men and women, and some of the best authentic German eating and drinking you can get.
We provide a large selection of typical German foods, including sizzling Bratwurst straight from the grill, Knackwurst, Weisswurst, pork loin, roast chicken (Brathun), potato salad (Kartoffelsalat), our famous potato pancakes (Reibekuchen), Sauerkraut, spiced red cabbage (Rotkraut) and Landjäger (a smoked sausage for nibbling with your beer).
Our beer comes from two great family owned breweries. We are again importing the very popular Pilsner, Oktoberfest and Dunkel (dark) Warsteiner beers from the Cramer family brewery in Warstein, Germany. This brewery has been operated by the Cramers since 1753. Not quite as old is the Yuengling Brewery in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, which is now in the fifth generation of Yuengling family ownership, since it was opened by David Gottlieb Yuengling, a German immigrant, in 1829. We are proud to offer Yuengling Lager, and Yuengling Oktoberfest, from the oldest brewery in the USA.
Recognizing that not everyone drinks beer, not even at Oktoberfest, we also have a selection of very good domestic and German wines. And for those who don’t drink wine and those under age, we serve coffee, water, a variety of soft drinks, and even chocolate milk.
For those who want authentic German pastries and breads, or for those who just have a sweet tooth, Reinecker’s Bakery, in Macedonia, Ohio, is again bringing a big truckload of their German baked goods. Visiting our Reinecker Bakery is like stepping into a one of the best “Backerei” or “Konditerei” in Germany.
This year the Feature Band will be “Die Lustigen Almdudler” from Rochester, New York. The Almdudlers play modern German Party music as well as all the polkas, waltzes and other traditional dance music for which Germany is famous. Before the feature band comes on, each night’s festivities will start with one of our two local German style bands, Die Elbe Musikanten and the Sauerkrauts. The Richmond Oktoberfest is really a dance party, that just happens to have great German food, beer, and baked goods.
Each year we import a specially designed beer stein from Germany. This year’s collector stein will feature an artist’s rendering of “das Deutsche Eck” (The German Corner), where the Mosel River flows into the Rhine River at Koblenz, Germany.
See you there!
And don’t forget to visit our outdoor “Biergarten”.
